Arabic Kindergarten (ages 4 to 6) – 60 minute Class This class is a fun hands-on introduction to Arabic letters. Different materials will be used for tactile introductions to the shapes of the letters. Play dough, construction paper, glue and glitter will be used. The goal of this class is to familiarize the young child with the shapes of the letters and culminating with the child’s knowledge of his or her name in Arabic script. Coloring worksheets or activity books will be used to enforce the letters covered in class. This class may be divided into sections depending on enrollment and other factors. The different sections will offer a fun hands-on introduction to Arabic letters similar to each other but some will cater more to older more mature 5- and 6-year old children.
Arabic 1 (ages 7 to 8) – 90 minute Class This class introduces the Arabic letters in all their forms, along with “Tashkeel” and “Madd” and simple word formation. In class games and activities are used to emphasize letters and words. Phonic sounding out and writing are drilled. Recognition of a number of “sight words” will be emphasized. Arabic 2 (ages 8 to 9) – 90 minute Class In this level the student elaborates on word formation with very simple sentences. Grammatical sentence components are introduced. Emphasis is on reading and writing. Textbook and Workbook: Iqra’ Arabic Reader, Level 1
Arabic 3 (ages 9 to 10) – 90 minute Class The student expands on sentences with simple text. More grammar is introduced with an emphasis on vocabulary development with the aid of fun reading club books. Textbook and Workbook: I love the Arabic Language – Level 1
Arabic 4 (ages 10 to 11) – 90 minute Class More advanced grammatical construction of sentences will be explored. Emphasis is on fluency in reading and comprehension. Textbook and Workbook: I love the Arabic Language – Level 2
Arabic 5 (ages 11 to 12) – 90 minute Class Advanced Arabic text, vocabulary, grammar, composition and conversation. Prerequisite: students must have had at least 4-5 years of Arabic instruction and teacher evaluation. Textbook: love the Arabic Language – Level 3
Arabic 6 (ages 12 to 13) – 90 minute Class Advanced Arabic text, vocabulary, and grammar. Textbook: love the Arabic Language – Level 4
Arabic 7 (ages 14 and up) – 40 minute Class Advanced Arabic text, vocabulary, and grammar.
Islamic Studies
Islamic Religion KG – 60 Minute Class Introducing Islam to students ages 4-6 with stories, the concept of Allah (swt), Islam and the prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The class will include stories about the prophets through activity and coloring books. Only mature Kindergarteners will be allowed in this class based on the teacher’s evaluation. Students will be introduced to proper Qur’anic recitation by the instructor. Emphasis will be on memorization of short surahs to prepare students for prayer. Islamic Religion 2 – 60 Minute Class Students will be introduced to Islamic beliefs and the five pillars of Islam. Emphasis is on teaching prayer. The concept of Allah (swt) and the Prophet (pbuh) will be introduced. Age-appropriate stories of prophets and moral behavior will also be introduced. Some Qura’nic verses are also included. Islamic Religion 3 – 60 Minute Class Emphasis will be on teaching prayer. Continuation of broad religious exposure to Worship, the prophets, stories from the history of the Prophet Muhamad (pbuh) and moral behavior as dictated in the Qur’an with support from Qur’anic verses. Islamic Religion 4 – 60 Minute Class Emphasis will be placed on teaching prayer. Select Surahs will be discussed and memorized. Life of the Prophet (pbuh) will be further studied. Islamic Religion 5 – 60 Minute Class Readings of Islamic teachings, fiqh and aqidah. Islamic History as well as a focus on tafseer of Qur’an. New Qur’anic verses as well as Hadith will be introduced with emphasis on the guidance they offer for moral lives. How to implement the teachings of Islam in our life. Textbooks and Workbooks: Continue using books from last year.
